Walk name: Gowbarrow Fell, near Ullswater
Grade: 3 Approximate length: 4 Miles
Aira Force is located on the A592, about halfway between Glenridding and Pooley Bridge. Park in the car park at Aira Force and walk towards the back of the car park onto the footpath with the river on your right.
The footpath heads to the right through a gate in a wall over a little river, then splits, carry straight on dropping down over another bridge and up the steps on the other side and continue until you reach another split by a giant conifer. Turn right here up the steps with a fence to the right, at the junction keep right again.
Cross the stile over the fence and walk across the steep slope, keeping the fence to your right until you reach another junction, go left here. You will now start to climb away from the fence and slope of Hind Crag, follow the footpath as it bends round the edge of the hill just above Yew Crag, a wonderful spot for photos and to admire the views.
The footpath runs around the eastern edge of the fell to reach a footbridge over Collierhag Beck, turn left just before a small ruin and follow the footpath up through a marsh area that has a wall running up the centre of it. As the footpath bends left, parallel with the wall, climbing up towards the summit of the fell, climb up until you reach the triangulation pillar at the summit. Locate the footpath that drops down to the right towards the wall, follow this wall down the slope until you reach another stone wall, turn left after this and follow the footpath next to Aira Beck back to the car park.
