Thornthwaite
Description: Thornthwaite is a scattered village south
west of Bassenthwaite Lake, just off the A66. North west from the village is Cockermouth and
south east you’ll find Keswick. Thornthwaite shares the Victory Memorial Hall with Bassenthwaite.
There is also a stunning 17th century hotel in the village.
Thornthwaite’s industrial past
is exhibited at the old Bobbin Mill and Lead Mine, both of which played an important role in the
growth and development of the village. Thornthwaite’s art gallery showcases the finest of the
local talent. The harsh beauty of this area in the northern lakes is popular with tourists and
the village is the perfect base from which to explore the area.
The breathtaking views
over the surrounding landscape from the local fells are popular with fell walkers. Thornthwaite
Forest is a beautiful place to visit and has some excellent walks through magical scenery running
over a number of well-known fells. Thornthwaite has most popular destinations in the Lake
District.
