Lake District - Towns and Villages Rydal
There's
plenty of towns and villages dotted all over the Lake District,
all are well within driving distance of each other, offering splendid
scenery and views of lakeland fells, mountains, lakes, rivers and
tarns. Many of which have excellent accommodation available wether
you are an avid walker/hiker or just here to see the beautiful scenerey,
for mountain bikers many of them offer safe storage for your bikes.

Rydal
Description: The charming village of Rydal is surrounded by
wooded fells and is situated between Ambleside and Grasmere. Rydal is a relaxed Lakeland village
consisting of a church, some houses, a hall and Rydal Mount, the famous home of William
Wordsworth.
Rydal Mount is the main attraction of the village William Wordsworth lived
there from 1813 till his death in 1850. The house is open to the public and exhibits furniture,
portraits, personal possessions and first editions of Wordsworth’s work. St Mary’s Church, built
in 1824, is another popular attraction in Rydal.
Close to the church is Dora’s Field,
which is the piece of land that William Wordsworth dedicated to his daughter, owned by the
National Trust it is always open to the public. The surrounding landscape offers walkers a number
of good walks, the most popular is the walk around the southern shore of Rydal Water through to
Grasmere.
