Patterdale
Description: Patterdale stands at the base of Grizedale,
along the A592 south of Ulswater and Glenridding. This small Lakeland village has a Post Office
come general store, a church, the White Lion Pub with accommodation available and The Patterdale
Hotel. Patterdale is home to the Mountain Rescue who provide rescue services all year
round.
The village’s main attraction is the 17th century Patterdale Hall, the former home
of John Mounsey, who was known as the King of Patterdale. Patterdale can get quite busy during
the summer months due to the variety of popular walks exploring the surrounding landscape. One of
the Lake District’s classic walks for strong walkers is the trail to Helvellyn via Stridding Edge.
Fairfield and St Sunday Crag provide amazing views over the valley and are popular hikes.
Low level walks include the magnificent walk from Howtown to Glenridding. At the top of Kirkstone
Pass, south of Patterdale, is the Kirkstone Pass Inn, the highest public house in England.
Patterdale is an excellent choice for a memorable holiday in the Lake District.
