Maryport
Description: Maryport, north of Workington, was once a
flourishing port. The town is located close to the ruins of the Roman fort of Alauna, and the
quay area is the oldest part of town. The South Quay area has an excellent aquarium and
steamships museum which exhibits models and authentic steamships from Maryports
history.
There are many aquariums and museums found all around town. The Maryport Maritime
Museum is a good place to start exploring the city, with exhibits showing the town’s maritime
history.
