Lake District - Towns and Villages Kendal
There's
plenty of towns and villages dotted all over the Lake District,
all are well within driving distance of each other, offering splendid
scenery and views of lakeland fells, mountains, lakes, rivers and
tarns. Many of which have excellent accommodation available wether
you are an avid walker/hiker or just here to see the beautiful scenerey,
for mountain bikers many of them offer safe storage for your bikes.

Kendal
Description: This ancient market town on the banks of the River
Kent was granted a market charter in 1189, these days Kendal is a vibrant town of beauty, culture
and a rich history. Kendal’s main attraction is the Church of Holy Trinity, dating back to the
13th century, complete with its 19th century copy of the ancient Celtic Iron cross which was
erected by the first Christians of Kendal.
The town’s most popular attractions are the
Kendal Castle ruins from the 12th century, the 1759 Abbot Hall and the 1825 baroque Town Hall.
The town’s history is exhibited in the Museum of Natural History and Archaeology, while the
Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry houses exhibitions on Lakeland life from the past through to
the present.
For culture buffs, the Brewery Arts Centre hosts films and theatrical pieces,
as well as a regular gallery of exhibitions. Kendal also has a number of shops, eating and
drinking establishments to add to its cultural and historical attractions.
