Ireby
Description: Ireby, situated north of Bassenthwaite, was an
important market village having received its charter in the 13th century. This tiny village is
made up of a string of houses along the main road, a Post Office, and the Black Lion pub and the
Sun pub.
The market cross is a reminder of Ireby’s past glory and still stands opposite
the Black Lion Hotel. Over Water is the smallest and the northern most water in the Lake
District, and is located a short distance from the village.
There is a wide selection of
accommodation available in the village, the Black Lion Hotel and the guest houses are the most
popular.
