Gosforth
Description: This pleasant rural village is found on the
western coast of the Lake District, by the Wasdale turn off from the A595. The vibrant village
square has a bakery, café, some newsagents, a Post Office, arts and crafts shops and a few
pubs.
A short distance from the square there are a few hotels, a couple of Garden Centres
and the Gosforth Pottery. St Mary’s Church is Gosforth’s top attraction, and is the most
historical church in the area. There has been a church on this site since the 12th century, with
the current church dating from 1789. The Viking cross in the churchyard is one of the best in all
of England.
The Gosforth Pottery has a lovely selection of handmade stoneware and
earthware, and decorative biscuit stamps which are sold all around the world. Places of interest
to visit near Gosforth include Wastwater, Wasdale Head and the laidback resort of Seascale.
