Glenridding
Description: Glenridding is found a short drive from
Ambleside along the Kirkstone Pass on the south western shore of Ullswater. The village is
surrounded by mountains on three sides, making it a popular destination amongst fell walkers who
wish to explore Helvellyn, Fairfield and Place Fell.
In the mid 17th century Glenridding
was a mining village with iron ore being mined close to the village. These days the village’s
main industry is tourism, with a variety of pubs, inns, shops and a wide selection of
accommodation options, including outstanding guest houses.
Glenridding is popular with
tourists who want to follow some active pursuits like cycling, climbing and walking. A cruise on
Ullswater on one of the old late 19th century steamers is a great way to take in the beauty of
the area. Five miles from Glenridding is Aira Force, the most famous waterfalls in the Lake
District.
