Egremont
Description: This old market town is found close to nature
reserve at St. Bees Head in the west of the Lake District. The area around the village flourished
from 1267 when it was granted a market charter.
Egremont’s attraction include a Norman
castle dating from 1130, found a short distance south from the village and the St. Michael and
St. Mary’s church, dating from 1881 and is an outstanding example of Victorian architecture. The
majority of the village’s buildings are from the 18th and 19th centuries.
