Dacre
Description: This old picturesque village is situated north of
Pooley Bridge, and consists of a few cottages, farms, a church, a castle and a pub. The Church of
St Andrews stands on the site of a Saxon monastery, and its chancel contains two pieces of an
ancient cross shaft.
The churchyard contains the Dacre Bears , 4 carvings of bears that
mark the 4 corners of the original churchyard. A short distance from the village is a beautiful
Norman Castle, which is a private residence and not open to the public.
The Horse Farrier
pub’s selection of local beers and local cuisine is world renown, and is not to be missed when
you’re in Dacre.
