Lake District - Towns and Villages Coniston
There's
plenty of towns and villages dotted all over the Lake District,
all are well within driving distance of each other, offering splendid
scenery and views of lakeland fells, mountains, lakes, rivers and
tarns. Many of which have excellent accommodation available wether
you are an avid walker/hiker or just here to see the beautiful scenerey,
for mountain bikers many of them offer safe storage for your bikes.

Coniston
Description: Coniston is situated at the base of The Old Man
of Coniston, next to Lake Coniston and is possibly the most famous of all destinations in the
Lake District. The town is centrally located and its buildings are largely built of local grey
stone.
Attractions Coniston has to offer include the Village Church, the resting place of
Ruskin who was the famous Coniston Renaissance man Brantwood, which was Ruskins home and
Coniston Hall, which dates back to the 15th century.
Fell walkers and mountaineers use the
village as a base for exploring the surrounding landscape. Near by Coniston Water offers
sightseeing trips on the famous Edwardian gondola, boat hire and a number of water based
activities all through the year.
