Lake District - Towns and Villages Cockermouth

Cockermouth

Description: Cockermouth is world renown as being the Birthplace of William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian. This Georgian town has been an important settlement in the area for hundreds of years, and was granted a market charter in 1221.

The village stands near the junction of Derwent River and Cocker River. Attractions on offer in Cockermouth include Cockermouth Castle dating back to the 12th century; the Cockermouth All Saint’s Church; Wordsworths house built in 1745; and the annual Cockermouth Music Festival.
