Lake District - Towns and Villages Carlisle

Carlisle

Description: Situated in the north of Cumbria, Carlisle is the capital city of the county. The city is very popular with visitors to the Lake District, thanks to its welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

Carlisle’s main tourist attractions include Carlisle Castle built in 1092 and today is home to the Kings Own Royal Border Regiment; the Cathedral which dates back to 1133; the Victorian enclosed market; the Tullie House Museum and Gallery, housing exhibits of Carlisle’s history; the Old Town Hall; the Guild Hall Museum; and Hadrians Wall.
