Lake District - Towns and Villages Backbarrow

Backbarrow

Description: This beautiful small village is situated off the A590, in a quiet corner by the River Leven. Famous flat iron workers, like Isaac Wilkinson, lived in Backbarrow in the 18th century.

The development of Whitewater Village has injected new life into the area, and it offers a number of facilities and activities for people of all ages. Backbarrow also has a long history and tradition of the cotton and flax mills.

Backbarrow is the perfect starting point for exploring the Lakeland, and is situated on the edge of the Lake District.
