Keswick

Description: Keswick, which can be reached from either junction 40 on the M6 motorway via the A66 or from the A591 via Ambleside and Grasmere, is a popular town for serious fell walkers and climbers as well as being the main tourist attraction of the northern Lakes. However, this town can also be reached by using the local bus service which stops right outside a local supermarket store.

There are many car parks in Keswick, many of which are close to the wide variety of shops and attractions this town offers. There are children's playgrounds, mini golf, museums to the well known Theatre by the Lake and every year Keswick hosts a Film Festival and the Words by The Water Festival.

Attractions which are nearby Keswick include Castlerigg Stone Circle, which is located east of Keswick and which has been called the most beautifully located stone circle, as well as Whinlatter Forest, which is approximately four miles west of Keswick. At Whinlatter Forest, which is well known for it's Osprey's nest, there is a visitor's centre, gift shop, children's play area, great walks and orienteering courses.

The accommodation in Keswick is vast. Here you will find more bed and breakfast establishments and Guest Houses per head of population than anywhere else in the county. The nearest lake is Derwent Water which at one and a half miles wide is the widest lake in England and the nearest mountain is Blencathra, also known as Saddleback, which has six separate fell tops - the highest of which is approximately 868 metres high.
