Grange-over-Sands
Description: Grange over Sands, which was originally a small inaccessible seaside fishing village in the Victorian era, can be reached from junction 36 on the M6 motorway via the A590 to Barrow in Furness and then by picking up the signs for Grange over Sands, or alternatively, by bus or train. The Grange over Sands railway station is located on the Furness line which offers connections to Ulverston and Barrow in Furness to the west and Lancaster, Preston and Manchester to the east. This small seaside village flourished to a popular seaside resort with the arrival of this railway in 1887.
You will find, above the town on Hampsfield Fell, Hampsfell Hospice. This was built by the Vicar of Cartmel in 1846 and has provided shelter for walkers ever since. From here, on a clear day, the scenic panoramic views of Helvelyn, the Old Man of Coniston, the Langdales Morecambe Bay to the Isle of Man and Snowdonia can clearly be viewed and appreciated.
There are many activities and attractions available in and around Grange over Sands as it is within easy reach of Cartmel, Kendal, Windermere, Bowness on Windermere and Ulverston.
As with the rest of Cumbria, Grange over Sands has a wide variety of accommodation establishments, these range from bed and breakfast houses, guest houses, self catering to hotels.
