Glenridding

Description: Glenridding, which is a small village situated at the southern end of Ullswater in the Lake District National Park, can be reached from junction 40 on the M6 motorway following the A66 west signposted Keswick. At the roundabout take the first exit signposted Ullswater, Watermillock onto the A592. Turn right at the T-junction on Ullswater to Glenridding, or alternatively, from junction 36 on the M6 motorway taking the A590/A591 west signposted Windermere. At the roundabout in Windermere turn right onto the A592 signposted Ullswater and Penrith - this will take you over Kirkstone Pass.

Glenridding has a number of Pay and Display car parks, the nearest being at the steamer terminus where toilets can also be found. Glenridding, which has excellent lake shore access, is also popular with mountain walkers who can climb England's third highest mountain, Helvellyn, and many other challenging peaks from here.

The local mountain rescue team organise a duck race each year on Easter Monday to raise funds. This village and it's surrounding area, which was once home to the largest lead mine in the Lake District, was used to film the TV series The Lakes. The Ullswater steamers carry passengers around this lake. It is also possible to purchase a combined ticket for bus and steamer boat service along the lake. However, it would be advisable to obtain further information about this from the Ullswater Information Centre. Glenridding is the ideal place to spend a good day by the lake with plenty of opportunity for activities or relaxing in a fantastic setting.

Glenridding has a vast selection of accommodation on offer, these range from bed and breakfast establishments, guest houses, self catering to hotels.
