Cockermouth, which is steeped in history, is probably best known as the birthplace of William and Dorothy Wordsworth. Their home, Wordsworth House, now owned by the National Trust and which has been restored, is open to visitors.
Cockermouth, which is near Bassenthwaite lake and the mountain of Skiddaw, has a wide variety of activities and attractions to suit the whole family. One of the other main attractions of Cockermouth is it's Norman Castle, Cockermouth Castle, which is partly ruined, but is still inhabited by Lady Egremont. This castle, however, is only open to the public once a year during the annual Town festival.
Cockermouth has a wide selection of accommodation establishments to choose from, these range from bed and breakfast establishment, self catering houses and cottages, camping and caravanning to hotels.
