Bowness on Windermere

Description: Bowness on Windermere, which is approximately a mile and a half from the village of Windermere, can be reached from junction 36 on the M6 motorway via the A591 or, alternatively, by bus or train. As this is a small village, parking can be difficult during the summer season, however, public transport is very efficient.

Bowness on Windermere, or Bowness as the locals call it, is a very popular tourist destination that provides an abundance of water activities, as it lies on the shores of Lake Windermere. Lake Windermere is approximately 10.5 miles in length and approximately a mile wide. There are also many walks to be done around the lake and across the lake on Claife Heights. There is a car ferry from Bowness over to Ferry Nab.

A promenade, which is approximately a mile long, provides the tourist with an amusement arcade, shops, eating establishments, ice cream huts, tennis and golf. There are also many shops in the village, cuisine restaurants, pubs and many outlets which supply climbing and fell equipment as well as suitable hiking and climbing clothing.

There are numerous attractions to choose from, these range from The World of Beatrix Potter Exhibition, Hill Top, which is the Lakeland Farm that inspired plenty of Beatrix Potter's illustrations, an Aquarium, lake cruises to hot air balloon trips and much, much more.
